Wow! It's been 5 years since we released our first smartphone and tablet based app.
Back in 2013 our app was simple. The earthquake events in Canterbury quickly highlighted the value of GeoNet, and we wanted to adapt to changing technology and deliver earthquake information in a portable form.
Our app has gone from strength to strength, and you can download the current version here for IOS and here for Android. Various developments and innovations over the last 5 years have led to a vastly improved app with an enhanced range of features.
At a glance, the advanced quake focused features our app now provides, include:
• The ability to tailor alerts to your location and filter the quake list on the basis of quake scale and magnitude.
• An app based version of our popular ‘shaking map’; and,
• You can also complete ‘felt reports’ through our app during or following an earthquake, even if you're on the move.
In addition to keeping you updated on earthquake activity, the app now provides Volcanic Alert Bulletins to inform you what’s happening at volcanic hotspots across the country.
The 'news feed', which has always been available and updated regularly on our website, is now available on the app. This means you can keep updated on what’s happening, even when you’re away from your desk.
One particularly useful aspect of the app is the 'hamburger menu' - the three line menu available at the top left corner of the app interface. This feature isn't confusing to use once you are used to it, and amongst other features it is where you go to customise notifications on the basis of the rules you select, set alert sounds and read frequently asked questions.
