GeoNet Data Policy – Usage, Acknowledgements, Citations

Acknowledgement

If we have helped you, please acknowledge us!

All data and images are made available free of charge through the GeoNet programme to facilitate research into hazards and assessment of risk.

GeoNet is sponsored by the New Zealand Government through its agencies: Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake (NHC), GNS Science Te Pū Ao, Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

Users are requested to acknowledge the GeoNet programme sponsors as the source of the data or images. A suggested text to acknowledge GeoNet and its sponsors is:

"We acknowledge the New Zealand GeoNet programme and its sponsors NHC, GNS Science, LINZ, NEMA and MBIE for providing data/images used in this study."

Data Citation

Some of the datasets distributed by GeoNet have an associated DOI (Digital Object Identifier). Please use the DOI indicated in your acknowledgments or citations as appropriate, if one is available.

Citation is of the following form:

Creator. (Year). Title [Resource Type]. Publisher. DOI.

Example:

GNS Science. (2022). GeoNet Aotearoa New Zealand Stations Metadata Repository [Dataset]. GNS Science, GeoNet. https://doi.org/10.21420/0VY2-C144

GeoNet datasets that have a DOI assigned are listed below. The DOIs point to the GNS Science Dataset Catalogue with a short description of the dataset and links to data downloads and detailed information pages.
