The earthquake that struck Secretary Island in Fiordland on 10 August 1993 was felt from Auckland to Stewart Island, and even as far away as Sydney, Australia. The highest reported intensities of MM 8 were received from the nearby township of Te Anau. The quake triggered widespread minor landslides in the mountains between Doubtful Sound and Manapouri, and a ~0.6m tsunami on parts of the coast.
